hello out there! :)
I just made it back to Leh on my Enfield 350ccm Electra. Yes.. I had to get a rental bike, because my Karizma is stuck in Nako and maybe for another two weeks. Didn't take too long to organize another ride, but it's a bit costly (but affordable). For paying a bit extra now, I'm riding this bike really hard (200km/day average, what is a lot on these roads out here). But yes.. I'm getting to do what I wanted to do and to see what I wanted to see and it's quiet an adventure being out here on an Enfield ;) hehe ;)
So long story short.. I drove through beautiful Kinnaur Valley, made it to Nako, having the shittiest timing ever. Two days of snow and rain and then three days waiting for a huge army chopper that evacuated us from the place. The roads are severely damaged and riding out or hiking out didn't work (was an adventurous try tough ;)
so I took a bus to Manali and from there I went up over the Rothang pass to Leh within two days. In Leh I organized the permit for the surrounding places. Now after having been to almost all of them (last will be tomorrow ;) I must have a modified permit to go to special places and I will figure this out if it's possible in any way. I already spoke to the Magister once, maybe he can remember me ;)
one issue was that you have to be at least two people to get the permit.. so an agency put some other dude on it (that I never saw) and at the checkpost I was just telling that he comes later ;) (that's what the Magister suggested to do me ;D
so this all worked very well! the first day, when I tried to cross Kardung La there was a landslide and they were blowing up rocks. So I had to turn back to Leh and tried it the next day. Bingo! road free and I made it to Turtuk (almost Pakistan). Then to some hotstprings, tripping out in a valley and over some other more remote pass back to the civilization. Wow!! awesome trip! :) from there to Tso Morori, a lake at 4500m.a.s.l. hiking up a shelve mountain slope to almost the snow line. that was yesterday :)
then today on some other way back I got a flat tyre and was more than happy that a car stopped to help me fix this (repair truck for other guys). I rewarded the man generously, wanting to encourage his positive attitude towards helping! :D ..I couldn't have done it on my own..especially because missing some tools. So I'm happy this happened on the main road :P ..also ignored some signs.. but from now on, I'll be on well traveled roads, so this won't be a big problem (you just loose some time).
okay.. naming some pictures on FB and having a well earned beer! (I got a good map today and my spare tube is fixed and carrier welded).
